Quality testing of safety-relevant valve blocks

How Zettl reduced the reject rate through external QDL and enabled stable delivery dates for a machine manufacturer

A man wearing gloves and work clothes measures safety-related valve blocks in a modern industrial workshop using a caliper gauge.

Initial situation

A mechanical engineering company had been manufacturing aluminum hydraulic valve blocks for several years. The components were safety-relevant and had to be visually and dimensionally inspected. The company opted for an external inspection for economic reasons.

The challenge

Relevant quality features such as machining quality, freedom from burrs, clean bores and functional dimensions had to be reliably evaluated. Bottlenecks in the inspection process led to delays and rejects.

Solution

Our team carried out the inspection directly at the customer's premises, including visual inspection, dimensional inspection with calipers and gauges as well as structured documentation. This allowed us to identify errors at an early stage and avoid rejects.

Result

Thanks to the external QDL, reject rates were significantly reduced, production bottlenecks were avoided and delivery deadlines were consistently met. The machine manufacturer benefited from greater process stability and lower overall costs.

Conclusion

Significantly lower reject rate thanks to external QDL

Stable delivery dates despite bottlenecks

21 % lower inspection process costs due to external service
